A Fun Way to Reduce Post-Holiday Clutter
If you’d like to get a jump on getting rid of old toys to make room for new ones, here’s an idea I came across from www.Simplify101.com to help reduce post-holiday clutter. This task is particularly tough if you have small kids who get lots of new toys from Santa when their toy boxes are already filled. But I have a solution!
I saw the photo of this bag and decided it was a bit pricey to purchase but a great idea and simple to reproduce. Get a king-sized pillow case and add a drawstring to the top or cut up an old sheet, stitch up two sides and make a pocket in the top for a drawstring. Have the kiddies decorate the outside of the bag, add a message to Santa and their name.
Once the bag is made and decorated, encourage your children or grandchildren to fill it with old toys they no longer play with. If it is before Christmas, Santa picks them up on Christmas Eve. Don’t forget to take a photo of the children holding the bag for Santa!
If you are putting this daunting task off until after the holidays, you can help Santa by taking the filled bag to your favorite charity. I think this is a brilliant idea because, really, what kid doesn’t want to help Santa?
If you no longer have young kids at home you can still get in on the fun. Grab your own very large sack and as you are putting away the decorations or purging your winter wardrobe, take notice of items that you no longer love. Simply drop the donations into the bag and when it’s full, deliver to your favorite charity. Won’t it feel great to get a jump start on January’s de-cluttering and organizing ahead of time?
Get in the oh-what-fun-it-is-to-declutter spirit now for a prosperous New Year.
